Ingredients for 4 People
- 240g riz cuit à l'avance - rice cooked in advance (80g uncooked rice)
- 2 merguez - merguez sausages
- 2 chipolatas - another type of sausages
- Huile d'olive - Olive oil
- 2 cuillères à soupe de concentré de tomates or ketchup - 2 soup spoon tomato puree or ketchup
- 30g de miel ou 150g de sauce soja - Honey or soja sauce
- 2 carottes - Carrots
- 1 échalotte ou 1 petit oignon - 1 shallot or 1 small onion
- 4 feuilles de chou - 4 leaves of cabbage (whatever)
- 200g de feuilles d'épinard ou pousses d'épinard : fresh spinach
- Piment d'espelette
Directions
Prepare all the ingredients
(The smaller the pieces, the quicker it is cooked).
- Cook the rice if not done already
- Cut the sausages in small pieces (see the video)
- Prepare the quantity of tomato puree or ketchup in a bowl
- Prepare in another bowl the honey or sauja sauce
- Peel the carrots and cut them in small pieces
- Peel the shallot or the onion and cut in small pieces
- Cut the cabbage leaves in small. TIP : roll them before like a cigar, as shown in the video
- Wash the spinach if necessary
- In a pan or a wok, with some olive oil or any vegetable oil, when hot put the sausages and cook until nice colored and switch the heat off.
- In another hot pan or hot wok with oil -or in the same one, but remove the content with the sausages first- put the shallot first. Some minutes later, add the carrots, and a little later the cabbage and the spinach and cook until nicely cooked (faire fondre les légumes, melt the vegetables).
- Mix the rice, the honey and the tomato puree. Add salt and some piment d'espelette. Heat if necessary.
- Add the sausages part with the sauce in the pan with vegetables and mix.
- Add the rice part to the vegetables and sausages and mix.
