After the quarantine, how about a week-end or some holidays in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

In this region situated on the East part of France, discover some beautiful landscapes and curiosities, eat local specialities and have fun !

And consists of 3 regions
- Auvergne, Rhône and the Alps

The Auvergne is the region of the volcanoes with the biggest European one : le volcan cantalien.
It's a lovely place for people who like nature, landscapes with wide open spaces.
There are lovely places to visit like the Puy-Mary and its peak at sunset, an ancient mine, the volcanoes park.
In the Auvergne, you may visit towns like Clermont-Ferrand, Aurillac, Vichy, the Puy en Velay.
In the restaurants, try the typical dish : the Aligot (a potato purée with garlic, cream and cheese) or the potée Auvergnate, and for the dessert la tarte de Vic.
There are many things to do like hiking, cycling, fishing, paddling, spend an afternoon as a Gallic, or relax at the Vichy thermal baths.
Enjoy a visit at Michelin, a company since 1889. Michelin produces tires, a gastronomy guide, and maps.
Have fun at the Vulcania park.

The Rhône and the Alps regions

Rhône-Alpes is the best mix between lakes and mountains. It offers a wide range of activities with nearby winter resorts and cultural appeal.
You will find the best restaurants with cheese specialities - Fondue - Raclette - or Tartiflette, in Savoie and Haute-Savoie.
You can visit some pretty little towns like Aix-Les-Bains, Annecy, Chamonix for example or go to a resort like La Clusaz, Avoriaz and Les 2 Alpes.
There is so many more, we could speak about lots of them for long.
If you decide to drive a bit further, you can even cross the border to Switzerland or Italy, and go for a one day trip to Geneva or Turin.

We could also speak about Lyon, and his famous " bouchons ", which is the name given to the very typical and traditional restaurants, with local food and wine. If you have the chance to be there in December, enjoy the Fête des lumières, 4 days, where the city is illuminated with lots of colours.

Globally if you like outdoor adventures, Rhône-Alpes is a good place to be and you can try to push your limits with extreme sports with professionals teachers.

On the other hand, be aware that there are certain places with a huge historical past:

The Glières Plateau for example which was an important site of the French Resistance during the Second World War, you will be able to walk over there an visit.

Or the Canut House  in Lyon which was,  the collective name for the major revolts by Lyonnais silk workers. This unique place invites you to discover the great history of the Lyon silk industry and that of the men who built it.

So enthusiasts of art and culture will not be disappointed by the region which has different towns classified by UNESCO as a World Heritage site.
And the most motivated will be delighted by the impressive natural backdrop and will enjoy their time between, skiing, hiking, mountain biking or even paragliding, and canoeing down the Durance or the Ardèche

Hope you Enjoy !
